[Golf] Viking Men First, Women Second After Day One of MCC Championships

Following the first day of the MCC Golf Championships held today at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside, Iowa, the Viking men sit in first place and the women second in the team scoring.The Grand View men, contending for their sixth-straight MCC title, shot a two-round score of 566 (280-286) and are 12 strokes ahead of second place AIB. All five Vikings are in the top ten in the individual scoring – Matt Weeks (Carroll, Iowa) leads the 35-player field after a first day total of 137 (68-69). Tyler Christians (Urbandale, Iowa) is tied for second (70-71=141), Jay Monahan (Wichita, Kan.) is tied for third (69-73=142), and Myles Pfingsten (Fairmont, Minn.) and Ben Wollam (Marshalltown, Iowa) are tied for ninth (73-73=146 for both).The Viking women played one round today and shot a 325, eight strokes behind leader William Penn (317). Kenzie Rottinghaus (Urbandale, Iowa) is tied for second place after a first round of 77, just one stroke behind leader Meg Monson of Mount Mercy. Maria Mantilla (Bogota, Colombia) sits in fifth place (78), Angela Chemas (Bogota, Colombia) and Tessa Swacker (Waterloo, Iowa) are tied for 14th (85), and Jalyn Briley (Boone, Iowa) is 27th (90).The final round begins at 8 a.m. Wednesday.Day 1 Men's ResultsDay 1 Women's Results
