[Women's Golf] WOMENS GOLF TRAVELLED TO DODGE CITY FOR THE KCAC MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Dodge City, Kan.- The Tabor Women's Golf team travelled to Dodge City Kansas for the KCAC Match Play Championships at Mariah Hills Golf Club.  The Match Play format is unique compared to the normal stroke play scoring rules.  In Match play one person from a team is matched up against a player from another team in a head to head match up between two teams at a time.  Scoring takes place hole by hole where if player "A" has a lower score on a hole than player "B", player "A" wins the hole and goes 1up.  The match continues until a player is up more than there are holes left to play and then the match is over. Coming into the event Kansas Wesleyan were the favorites and they performed well winning the Conference Championship this year.            The Bluejay Women on Monday had their first match up in the afternoon playing Southwestern College.  Valdisa Andov (SO/Pekanbaru, Indonesia) who is Tabor's number one player won her match 5 up in a decisive fashion in 9 holes. "She was very confident in herself trying to win every hole as her goal" said coach Jamieson.  Lauryn Paredez (SO/Cutler, Calif.) nearly won her matchup on Mondaywhich went back and forth only losing 1 down.            On Tuesday the Bluejays got paired against Friends University. It was another close match with Madison Guerra (FR/Dinuba, Calif.) winning her match 2 up as well as Valdisa Andov winning her second match of the week 1 up. "Madison had a tough match up the first day which prepared her for day 2" said coach Jamieson.  Madison had to play Southwesterns number 1 player in round 1 where she played a good match keeping it close every hole. The previous day's experience propelled her to a victory in match 2 where she won 3 holes and only lost 1.  Madison credited her round 2 victory by saying " the first match gave me extra focus around the greens." Madison had this to say after her round. "It was great experience getting to play in my first Championship and match play tournament. Even though I lost one I was able to win one as well. I learned to keep my composure even if I lost one or two holes and to keep pushing forward. Overall it was great experience and I can't wait to keep getting more experience next semester."             Lauryn Paredez again played her match close which would have been the swing point in a Tabor victory. Lauryn eventually lost 2 down. Tara Sheets (SO/Azle, Texas) played her best golf of the week on Tuesday only to lose to the former number 1 player for Friends who seemed to have regained her underclassman form to edge out Tara.  The final player for the Bluejays Gracie Trogdon (SO/Lawton, Okla.) also played well on day 2, however, it was just not enough to pull out the victory. "I was impressed with Gracie's day 2 performance" said coach Jamieson "she was able to turn bad shots into good shots quickly which is very hard to do without control of your emotions."  Gracie did mention on one occasion that it helped her to see coach Jamieson on a specific shot. Gracie had a very hard up-hill 60 foot putt that she missed 20 feet past the hole. Gracie took a quick look at coach Jamieson and knew she had to forget about the poor shot and continue to make the 20 foot combacker to halve the hole, she did just that.  WHATS NEXT? The Bluejays will play host to 130 players next Monday and Tuesday as they wrap up their season at Sand Creek Station in Newton Kansas.
