[Golf] Lions Place Fourth And Lady Lions Finish Seventh In Phoenix Invite

Mt. Juliet, Tenn. – One of the most exciting moments in the two days of golf at the Cumberland University Phoenix Invitational (Mar. 21-22) was when junior Hunter Bruce (JR/Ducktown, Tenn.) hit his tee shot on the opening round on day one on the 161-yard par three 5th hole at Windtree Golf Club in Mt. Juliet, Tenn. to within six inches of the hole. On day two, Hunter went on to fire a personal varsity best of 77 to help the Bryan Lions Men's Golf team improve six strokes and two spots to finish in 4th place out of 10 teams in the Phoenix Invite. The low score of the tournament belonged to sophomore, Nick Scully (SO/Carelton, Mich.), who registered a strong two under par (70) to finish with a two-day total of 147, leading the Lions once again in scoring. Junior, Bryce Pickens (SO/Sevierville, Tenn.), shot a personal best 74-75=149 to finish right behind Scully in team scoring. One stroke behind Pickens was Tom Durbin (JR/Wildnes Chesire, England), who had the low Bryan score on day one of 73. Tom struggled all day in the gusty winds to find the green, but his strong short game helped him finish at 77 the second day for a total of 150.Finishing 4th for the Lions was junior, Carson Griffin (SO/Cleveland, Tenn.), who notched a 79-78=157. Rounding out scores for the Lions were junior Lucas Coffelt (SO/Jasper, Tenn.) at 159 and Paul Houk (FR/Athens, Tenn.) at 163.
