Inaugural Vikes track coach dies at age 89

VICTORIA – Gerard Dumas, the first-ever University of Victoria track coach, passed away on April 10, 2024, at age 89, leaving a legacy that has shaped generations of athletes. Joining UVic in 1968, Dumas established the Vikes track program and nurtured a culture of inclusivity and support, encouraging athletes to pursue their dreams within the sport.
