[Men's Golf] Hughes, McCarty post top-five finishes on opening day of UPike Invitational

The men's golf program, behind excellent play from Jordan Hughes and Elijah McCarty, sit in a tie for third place following the opening day of the two-round UPike Invitational at Stonecrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg, Ky.Hughes, who was one of just two players to shoot at or below par in the opening round, used his even-par 72 to put himself second in the 44-player field. The Flemingsburg, Ky. native finished just one stroke behind Spalding (Ky.)'s Nolan Keeler on the opening day of competition.Just one stroke behind Hughes, Elijah McCarty tied Centre (Ky.)'s James Folz for third place by shooting a one-over par 73. The performance, which is McCarty's best round of the 2021 season to date, puts two SSU players within two strokes of the lead heading into the final day of action.
