Two Wildcats Under Par Following First Round at Lake Las Vegas

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Kentucky men's golf team was paced by a pair of 2-under-par scores from Jacob Cook and Garrett Wood on the opening day of play at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate. The Wildcats finished at even-par overall as a team and are tied for sixth with 36 holes to play. Wood and Cook are tied for 12th overall on the individual leaderboard.

Kentucky is in the middle of the pack entering day two with all five starters and individual Zach Norris having enjoyed bright spots throughout the opening round. St. Mary's edges the field at 12-under par. Little Rock and West Virginia are tied for second at 7-under. UAB fired a 2-under and Kansas City's 1-under par just topped the Wildcats, Utah and Oregon State for fifth.

Wood got off to a fast start by birding his opening hole of the tournament. He played even par before suffering a bogey at the ninth to make the turn at even par. An eagle at the par-five 14th moved him to under par and he closed out the round with four straight pars. Today's 70 marks the 29th par-or-better round of his career and the eighth of the season.
