Union softball places four on NFCA All-Region teams

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has announced its 2012 NAIA All-Region teams. This season, 134 student-athletes representing 46 institutions were chosen for either a first or second team in each of the Association's five regions. Union University placed four on the all-region teams.

Sophomore Shelby Lamb, the TranSouth Conference Player of the Year, was named a first team outfielder. Lamb, a native of Shelbyville, Tenn., set a new Union record with .486 batting average this season. She added team highs with 19 doubles, eight home runs and 52 RBI.

Brooke Thomas (Huntingdon, Tenn.) was named second team all-region pitcher by the NFCA. Thomas, a junior for Union, was named the TranSouth Pitcher of the year this season with a 24-7 record and 217 strikeouts.

Katie Davis (Kenton, Tenn.) was named second team all-region third base. She hit .348 with 11 doubles, two home runs and 49 RBI. Davis was name first team all-conference this season.

Alex Williams (Milan, Tenn.) was named second team all-region outfield by the NFCA. She hit .333 with 53 hits, four home runs, 28 RBI, 33 runs and seven stolen bases.

NFCA member coaches in each of the five regions select the NFCA All-Region teams and honorees are now eligible to be selected to one of two 2012 NFCA NAIA All-American teams.

The 2012 NFCA All-American teams will be announced on Friday, May 25 and will be available on NFCA.org.
