[Women's Golf] Danson to Take Over Women's Golf Program

Doane University is excited to announce the selection of Jim Danson as Head Women's Golf Coach starting in the 2022-23 academic year. Danson will begin recruiting immediately to add to his first squad as he takes over the position currently held by Jeannine Foster, who will be retiring following the 2021-22 season."First, I would like to thank Coach Foster for her hard work and dedication to our Women's Golf program and wish her the best in this next chapter of her life," Doane Director of Athletics Mark Wateska commented. "We are thrilled to welcome Jim Danson to the Doane family as our next Head Women's Golf Coach. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with over 34 years as a head coach, teacher and mentor. We are fortunate to have someone as accomplished as Jim to lead our Women's Golf program into the future."Danson most recently coached high school golf at Lincoln Southwest where he won four state titles in girls golf and four in boys golf. He also had eight state runner-up championships and 23 district championships between the two teams."Doane has a very good reputation of having excellent academic and athletic programs," Danson said of the opportunity that lies ahead for him. "It is very important to me to join a team that has a family environment. I strongly believe that Doane University has that kind of environment."A two-time National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) finalist for national Coach of the Year, Danson received NHSACA National Golf Coach of the Year in 2021. He was a two-time recipient of the KFOR Golf Coach of the Year (2008, 2016) and was the Nebraska Coaches Association/HUDL Golf Coach of the Year in 2015.In the short term, Danson wants to create relationships with the players while helping them focus on their goals through relentless work that will translate into trusting their training, skills, and the process when in competition. A strong team cohesiveness is also important in Danson's eyes."You need to develop positive, holistic habits which will create trust," commented Danson. "This is my core principle in coaching, that individual commitment to a group effort creates a united and powerful team. I try to teach/coach my players to be focused and trust the process of technique and skills."Doane begins the spring portion of their golf season on March 21-22 at the Baker Invitational before hosting the Kaitlyn Erickson/Doane Invitational on March 30 at Pioneers GC in Lincoln.
