Derby, Kan. – Playing in their first tournament since the program was halted in 2015, the Friends University Men's Golf Falcons announced their arrival back on the scene in emphatic fashion with a victory in the KCAC/SAC Clash of the Conferences yesterday (Aug. 28) at the Derby Country Club in Derby, Kan.The Falcons' win was bolstered by the play of freshman Trenton Sutherland (FR/Arkansas City, Kan. ), who won the individual title with a birdie on the second playoff hole to settle a three-way tie for first that also included the Falcons' Ethan Stewart (FR/Wichta, Kan. )."What a fun way to start the season," said Dustin Galyon, Friends University men's golf head coach and Director of Golf."Our effort and focus were really solid, especially on the first 18 holes of competition. We battled the wind the second 18 and our guys did a nice job. I am excited about our depth as we had eight players shoot in the 70's today. Winning the team competition and having the individual champion is really special!"Seven of the eight players that managed to shoot a round in the 70's are first-year players for the Falcons.The Falcons' top four results are listed below:Trenton Sutherland – 71-75-146Ethan Stewart – 72-74-146Tommy Alferman (FR/Wichita, Kan. ) – 72-78-150Jake Beltran (FR/Schertz, Texas) – 76-79-155Friends will next compete in the Mid-South Classic on Sept. 7 at the Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan.On the women's side, Kaela Ruggles (81-81-162) was the top individual performer to lead the Falcons (344-350-694) to a runner-up showing. Their top four scorers are listed below: Kaela Ruggles (81-81-162)Maddy Hart (85-84-169)Hailey Reavis (86-87-173)Kennedy Birk (86-89-175). The Falcon women will next play at the Central Kansas Classic on Sept. 13-14 at the Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson, Kan.
