[Women's Golf] Valdisa earns second place for the Bluejays in 35 mph winds

Winfield Kan.- The Bluejay Women's golf team travelled to winfield to play in the Southwestern invite at Quail Ridge Monday and Tuesday.  Monday's round had winds of 30 to 35 MPH that never stopped with gusts up to 60 MPH. Tuesday was 10 MPH less but also 20 degrees cooler at 60 degrees. Valdisa Andov (FR/Pekanbaru, Indonesia)(86,84), the Bluejays number one player who had never played in the wind of this magnitude before played really well taking second place overall.  Megan Brock (FR/Poolville, Texas) who played number two this week for the Bluejays turned in her best score of the year despite the wind. Lauryn Paredez (FR/Cutler, Calif.) for the Bluejays also played well finishing second on the team this week and looks to keep her momentum heading into the next event at Sand Creek.            Valdisa started the tournament downwind birdying the first hole of the tournament and gaining a lot of confidence.  Things changed quickly on the next hole where "Disa" made a triple bogey while going back into the wind. Coach Jamieson had this to say about hole 2. "I will never forget the moment where Disa realized how much the wind can affect the golf ball. We were next to the green in 2 shots which was a great position to be in. Disa hit a full Wedge which started off heading to the back of the green, and then the wind blew the ball about 30 yards back towards her and the ball landed about 10 yards short of the green close to where we started.  After the hole Disa agreed that she needed to learn new shots and how to play in the wind."            Taking second place is not new territory for the Bluejays top player who has finished in the top three four times for the Bluejays already. However, playing in the wind was different. Here is what Valdisa had to say after her great rounds of golf. " Just when I thought I got it all, something new and challenging comes up, forcing me break through my limit and hit shots I never thought I could do. It was an amazing experience to be able to play in such weather and playing shots I never thought I could hit." WHATS UP NEXT- The Lady Bluejays will play at Sand Creek Station in Newton for Bethany's tournament April 12 and 13.
