[Women's Golf] David Lawrence named women's golf coach

St. Ambrose University Director of Athletics Mike Holmes announced today the hiring of David Lawrence as the University's head women's golf coach. He replaces Joe Demory, who is leaving the Quad-City area to pursue opportunities outside coaching.Currently the Director of Instruction at the Davenport Country Club, Lawrence brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to St. Ambrose.A PGA of America associate member, Lawrence has won more than 30 mini-tour victories in the United States and Europe since turning professional in the fall of 2012. He set a course and tournament record with an opening-round 62 at the 2015 Illinois Open, and earned his first start on the PGA Tour at the 2017 John Deere Classic.He has also served as an assistant coach for the Augustana College women's golf program since 2014."I am extremely excited to be a part of the St. Ambrose University family. I look forward to continuing the growth of the program and building upon the foundation that Coach Demory has built over the last few years," Lawrence said. "I can't wait to get to work with our incredible student-athletes."A graduate of Moline (Ill.) High School, where he earned all-state honors as a senior, Lawrence continued his playing career at Eastern Illinois University. He led the Ohio Valley Conference and set an Eastern Illinois school record with a 72.2 scoring average and won two invitationals.A Capital One Academic All-American, Lawrence graduated with a degree in Marketing from Eastern Illinois in 2012.He will inherit a Fighting Bee golf program that finished second at the CCAC Championships in the spring, the team's best finish at a conference tournament since 2010.
